Which console represents you?

With the biggest  event in the gaming industry lurking around the corner, the E3 Expo held on June 15th-17th 2010 will be boasting their latest products and upcoming games for the scope of the rest of the year and the next. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will be at the center of attention as millions around the world awaits to see what seems to be the most enticing prospects in the near future.

Let us go to the constantly argued topic of which Console seems to be worthy of purchase in today’s gaming world

Microsoft Xbox 360 – price $249.99

Major highlights

Can support up to 250 gb capacity storage, has HDMI support,  highly renowed for boasting a large variety of award winning games and exclusive titles such as Gears of War, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell, Halo franchise . Xbox 360 also provides a premium online service for those who wish to download additional content, watch movies, play games online with other users. Furthermore the 360 will introduct a motion sensing product known as ‘Project Natal’ to take the new generation gaming experience to the next level. The Xbox 360 has made  over 40 million sales and is definitely a contender to be a potential winner amongst those who are looking to invest in some quality and serious gaming.

Weak points: online service requires a subscription fee and The Xbox 360 is subject to a number of technical problems. Since the console’s release in 2005, users have reported concerns over its reliability failure rate

Sony Playstation 3 – price $299

Major Highlights

Similarly to the Xbox 360 the ps3 machines boasts many robust multimedia capabilities, up to 250 gb storage capacity, a powerful processor and stand out feature of the Blu Ray support, Unlike other gaming systems, the PS3 uses Blu-ray Disc format which allows for massive storage and pristine picture quality. Sony also boasts a growing database of games from many major video game companies and renowned for exclusive titles such as: Uncharted, God of War, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance and Killzone. The bottom line is that the ps 3 is also a serious candidate worthy of claiming the number 1 spot in the gaming industry. It all depends on a matter of perspective and whether or not one chooses to go for the exclusive content of Microsoft or Sony

Weak points: Slightly more hefty price tag

Nintendo Wii- price $150

This immensely popular console arguably targets broader demographics to its competitors. The price tag is also enough to entice many. As of May 2010, the Wii leads the generation over the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in worldwide sales.  The console is known for its distinguished wireless remote which can be used as a handheld pointing device and detects movements in 3 dimensions.  The console is the home to popular titles such as Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, The legend of Zelda and Metroid.

Weak points: All games are in standard definition rather than the more popular high definition supported from the 360 and ps 3. Serious gamers might only find a few titles on the Nintendo Wii to play to cater to their needs.

Whether you prefer a particular franchise, brand or service is entirely up to you, the war between the 3 major consoles will always remain. Technological advancements each year is bringing a lot more exciting prospects for those who love to delve into the video gaming industry.

For those who dedicate themselves loyally to a particular console, i would like to receive feedback on the poll, so go ahead and vote!
